Jaipur

We are way behind on the blog, so I’ll be brief with words, and let the pictures do the talking for the next few posts.

Jaipur is a an amazing city. Unfortunately we only had two days, not nearly enough. Luckily, I’ve been there many times but we will need to come back and stay for a week to really soak in more of the sights. It’s fun to stroll through the old “pink city” and do shopping. Jaipur is full of high quality jewelry (Alison got a gold ring and some silver bangles) and any other handicrafts you could want (marble carvings, decorative furniture, textiles, and more). You could spend several days just shopping here.

After the Taj Mahal, one of the most visited sights in India is the Amber Fort set high on a hilltop outside of Jaipur. We spent several hours there. With more time, we would have spent more time there and then visited another fort perched above the Amber Fort.

I’ve attached pictures of: Amber Fort, The Palace of Winds (intricately carved screens the royal women used to use to watch the markets), Jantar Mantar (astronomical tools built in the 17th century, and still working today, including the worlds largest sundial), and the Jaipur City Palace (note the intricately carved doorways).

  1. Hey Ravi–loving your pictures. Not making time to read and would love to on some relaxed Saturday morning :). A request–would you guys be ok with my “borrowing” your pictures to add quotes on top to post on Facebook for my purposeDIY project? You are totally living the dream that I propose in what I hope will become a movement. Naturally I will not use pictures with any people in them. Cheers and keep on living full man! 🙂 Bobby
